Morning morning morning!
Well it's another fine morning, 4 hours of sleep after Easter Sunday with my ailing mother, and then driving her home & racing back to my house to finish my 8 page essay for school before the stroke of midnight......and while trying to put to chocolate-Easter-bunny-addicted kids to bed after an unusual 12-hour sugar buzz from Easter Bunny candy!
Anyway, enough about my - let's talk about the benefits of PARTICIPATION!
1. Contests - Unlike the Powerball, where your 2 tickets cut your chances of winning the big prize down to 2: 156.2 million, you actually have a REALLY good chance to win a LOT of contests and prizes here on Digital Downs.....Therefore, you RARELY need take the "I'll never win" approach here. The community is growing, but still less than 40-50 folks on average enter many contests, and oftentimes 10-25 folks enter......those odds are favorable if you consistently enter all of the competitions and races and contests! - So ENTER all of them!!! The cost is almost always nominal, and the payoff is almost always more than triple worth the cost of admission! The recent Facebook contest had 12 entrants I believe.....can't beat that! PARTICIPATE!! And oh by the way, it grows the site.
2. Special Races - Theses are a bit more complex, but they are necessary to enter, as the prize money is irresistible, especially if you have a horse that is at least remotely competitive in the respective competition! I won an contest once with a $12k gelding. Others will tell of similar stories. STUDY your horses, and take advantage of a hot streak, a nice run from your horse, and push the limits when the "pot odds" are in your favor..... Don't be afraid to shell out $8k or $10k, if the payout is $200k or 3 breeds to a million dollar stallion....You never know!
3. Relationship-Building - Get your name out there by "being there" often. I built a special relationship with 2 barns that are not oft-heard from, simply by "being out there". One thing lead to another, and now I have a partner in making deals....sometimes he is very generous, and sometimes he is unwilling to bend, but I have a partner who is always willing to entertain offers from me......I attribute the fact that I speak to him at all because of my "being active" on the forums, sending PM's, and entering contests and races..... Visibility breeds more visibility!
4. Enter races! - You would be surprised that it doesn't take as much as you might think to win races in many instances.....sometimes this is luck, sometimes this is skill, and most of the time it is a small combination of both.....I can tell you this much - It doesn't take as much "horse" to win most types of races this season as it did last season! You will not know until you enter. Now, I would not advise going out there and recklessly throw money around, as that will just frustrate the heck out of you.... But here is the GIG this season: We see all these crazy workouts, and this scares into thinking that "the bar" is too high, and we have no shot of winning races..... Nope, not this season anyway, and every season is different. For example, I have a horse who AVERAGES about 58.15 on his workouts at 5f, but he refuses to lose. In the last 2 seasons, I had horses running 57.80 that could not break their maiden! I am a fool for being to restrictive on what I keep in my barn, so I am the worst example, but look at trainers such as TnT, Buddha, Star of the Desert, Aquaman, and many more. They win a lot because they ENTER races where their horses have a chance to win, whether it is a claiming $3k, a midnight race, or a qualifier!
Best of luck to you, and the 10th and FINAL Season 33 installment of Orb's Oracle is already saved partially on a Word Document....I wanted to insert as the finale for this season!
New owners, please let me know if you have any questions...... I and many others are always here to help!
All the best, and happy racing,
