  • Hi Everyone

Im glad to be here..looking forward to racing
My trial horse won his first race.
My other horse a filly ..well I ran her to soon..(newbie..hehe)

Now got to buy or claim another one to start my stable..
Apparently a good mare for breeding is good idea or a good runner maybe.

Anyway ..Im already to learn more..

Good morning! Be warned, it's fun. There are plenty of advice givers out there, so don't feel like you're in this alone when putting together a stable.

Yes, a mare can help a stable get started for sure, but I would recommend getting your feet wet first by claiming some horses on the cheap and see workout histories, adds and "how things work" before jumping in full force. I was (am) a victim of jumping in and it's a lot harder on the wallet when you are a newb and have a 40 horse stable of $2k claimers. Again, claim a few to figure out how things work and you always can come here and ask questions.

Also, raceday chat is a great place to learn some of the ropes. I know I missed some things, so I'm sure there will be others with their advice as well.

    Welcome and good luck!

      Best of luck to you.

I'm fairly new myself and can attest to the fact that everyone here is helpful. Also agreed with GSB that the best way to start is by claiming. . .I didn't start this way, and I regret it now.
"Rachel WON. She wins INDEED. Rachel Alexandra THE GREAT."

"Here's a filly for the ages--a Haskell legend. Rachel DID IT."

"And now Rachel Alexandra is opening up 5 lengths on the field, 6. . .oh a Tour De Force by the super filly!"

"Oh, Rachel Alexandra. . .Calvin Borel isn't moving a muscle on her. Super filly? You bet!"

"What's the final margin? She might've won by 20!"

Welcome to the game. Essentials of life at DD: Read everything early. Ask when confused. Come to chat. Make fun of Nigel. Push the space bar really fast when your horses are running; it makes them run faster

I have found that closing one eye and using your thumb and index finger to "crush" the horses in front of yours works surprisingly well.

Welcome, John! Best of luck to you. We're glad to have you. Much of what's been said here in this thread is very true. Treat remarks about your space bar with some skepticism, however

Welcome! Yes, check out the claiming races, and learn on those. You can get some decent horses in the claiming races, especially if those entering them missed one of the zeros, in the conditions of the race...

Space bar?? Well no wonder I missed some wins!!
