  • Testing a bloodline

I have retired Bailes Away and put him up for stud at a low low fee--his racing record leaves a lot to be desired. However, I am using him as an experiment to see if bloodlines carry through. His sire is At A Way, a well known race horse here at DD. His dam is Baile Atha Cliath, Life 15 5 3 1 53400 89
    Year 0 0 0 0 0 0
    Dirt 13 5 3 1 52900 91
    Turf 2 0 0 0 500 74

I'm trying to see if he can possibly pass on the running genes of his parents to his foals-so feel free to try him out on your mares if you like. He has the pedigree to produce, even if he doesn't seem to have gotten the speed himself.

I believe there is merit in it, Deb.

I claimed Alamo quite a while ago as a maiden and finally won a maiden with him after quite a few attempts. It was obvious he wasn't going to be a world beater so I retired him as a sire. He has the Texas/Space Shuttle genes.

I put Nikki Kon Tiki to him and bred a very promising filly Tiki A La Mode. She won her first race by 10 lengths in 1:00:20 which is comparable to weak Allowance class and there is much more work to do with her. I also put Nikki to Texas and their foal Texas Tiki also won its first race but in a much slower time and I can't see it being any better than a 10K claimer.

I put my broodmare Magnifique to Alamo and bred a colt called Magalamo. I haven't raced it yet but its 2nd workout was a very good 59:81.

I have also used Blarney Valley's Houston which has the Texas/Graceland genes. Vicar On Liquor is the offspring and it has had 5 starts 1-3-1 and getting better with each run in Allowance company. Blarney Valley has the promising Mesquite from this sire.

So, yes... I believe that the genes are being carried through the offspring and seemingly producing a better quality performer.

Well, I tried him first on La Jolla Cliffs, one of my better mares. She has been bred to a variety of the top studs in the game right now, and has produced Crests La Blue--a very promissing colt by True Blue. So I know she can produce foals with the ability to run if she nicks with the stallion. The colt, Crests La Way, will start testing probably in a week or so, so we'll see.

I like the breeding too. I have bred one of my mares to him. If this colt turns out ok I'll probably breed a couple of more to him. The colt I got I named "Away With Phyl". We shall see what happens...

Good luck! I'll be watching him to see how he does!

Who knows-this may turn out to be the breeding bargain of the year! (hopefully!!)

            Interesting-
My first Breeding to Bailes Away was in a race today. Haven't trialed him at all, he came up with good numbers, so I put him in just to see how he would do: Crests La Way
            These were his numbers: STA:100 STR:98 SPD:100 END:100 FIT:100
he placed 8th out of 9, but with a time of 1:02.70, which I don't think is all that bad for no ads, no testing, just throwing him in there to run. Well worth doing some experimenting with to see if I can improve on that time! I was fully expecting like a 1:04 or something.
