    Colin,

Nice post, it really brings to light the ups and downs of a jockey's form, too. Here are my thoughts on some of the jockey's (just my opinion, but this may help some of the new stable's with their jockey selections).

J Smith - Leading rider in wins and purses right now and looking to knock off Krutz for the first time ever. I like her in most situations as she is very versitile (can sprint and route on both surfaces). She's one of my first choices especially if I have "jockey decides" as the riding instructions.

J Krutz - The king since the inception of the game. A bit off form lately, but still a nice rider. I like him in most situations, but I prefer others with "jockey decides" and "relax" instructions.

T Gard - Many stables top jockey selection. Solid all around rider. One situation that I haven't liked him in lately is "jockey decides" as he tends to drop a horse to the back of the pack (just from what I've seen with my horses). Certainly one of the first call jocks.

DJ Lopez - Maybe the hottest rider right now. Love him on speed horses with "push" and he does a nice job with routers who stay close to the pace. Seems to handle most instructions, distances and surfaces. Certainly first call for me with a speed horse.

C Oneto Jr - A nice rider who often gets my first call when "relax" is the instructions as he doesn't fall too far off the pace. I prefer him routing and he is very good with "relax" and "steady" instuctions and does well on turf, too. I don't use him in sprints as much, but is certainly capable and has won some big races sprinting for me. One of my favorites.

W Velez - Love him on the DIRT. Aggressive rider who's horses always seem to be finishing well. Does have a tendancy to hang horses wide as he is agressive (even on steady). Certainly a top three jockey selection for me anytime on the dirt, especially when routing or using any instruction except "push" (he's okay on "push" but others are better I think).

J McKay - One of my least favorite jockeys (of the ones that I use) as she seems to never finish up very strongly for me. I know Contemporary used her a lot and seems the best in routes with speed horses or horses who stay close and stay the trip. Useful on both surfaces.

M Bonneau - Liked him a lot more last season, but is still decent turf rider. Seems to ride best on speed horses and does a nice job of milking along a speed horse when routing on the turf. Can win with "push" or "steady" on turf and that is about the only times I use him.

J Rojas - Used him with "push" a lot when he was an apprentice. Now with no weight allowance, his horses have been going to Lopez and Smith for me. Certainly one to watch and one that I've had success with "push" in sprints.

D Fields - Still an apprentice which is nice. I use him often routing with "steady" instuctions. Has run some nice races for me and seems to be a nice off the pace rider as long as he is still an apprentice.

J Santos - I use him sometimes with "relax" and routing on the dirt. Seems to do better on the dirt and seems to be best with "steady" and "relax" instuctions.

P Pini - Used him some when he was an apprentice and did nicely at the mid distances (7F - 1M) with "jockey decides" or "steady". I haven't used him much lately.

S Hudson - A past GLL favorite until she started something like zero for fifty earlier this season. Seems to be regaining some form and one that I like sprinting with "jockey decides" or "push". One I haven't use much lately, but certainly worth a look if desperate for a JD or Push jockey.

I'm a big advocate of jockey / horse combinations. If you find a jockey that gets your horse running well, I tend to keep the same jockey up. Often, I'll reference a horse for potential claim has run well with a certain jockey. Watch what the larger stables do as far as jockey selections (as they have more horses and have more opportunities to try out jockeys). Also, watch to see what jockey seem to be getting hot and maybe look to use them (oh, Santana will you ever regain you great sprint "Push" form).

I hope some of the new stables find this useful.

    Good luck to all,
    Jamie

                      Interesting!!

Are these percentages- the % of total races at that distance the jockey won- the percent of the jockeys total races divided into the number won- or the total number the jockey rode at that distance divided into the number won.

                        Hi Ray

No this % is the total amount of rides in which the jockey has ridden for the month by the amount at which distance he/She has won at.

                          Hi Colin,

That's what I thought but wanted to be sure. Sorta makes you wonder though. Has Nellie won 75% of her races at 1 1/8th.
