  • The Story of "Sexy Black"

Just want to show new stables that lots of research will help you build your stable with some top horses.

    I breed Sexy Black

I claimed Planet Passer for 2k
and bought Heart to Heart for .5k
    spent 6k to breed

for 8.5 I got Sexy Black and she has won 260k so far plus Planet Passer is a top 20 sire and Heart to Heart is also a top 20 so far . I have gotten a lot of good to great horse from both of them .

there are a lot of good finds in lower claimers keep looking and you can get some very good horse cheap .

I congratulate you on the win,but having looked at the parents i cant see as a newbie what made you think these two were good breeders. both only managed 10,000 claimer wins at best,so can you tell me what drew you to these two because when it comes to breeding im really struggling with this game.
im beginning to think its more luck than judgement and that you only have to be a big stable who spends alot to get results going your way.

No one has the exact formula and its trial and error. There are strategies will improve your chance at producing hopeful offspring. Nothing replaces quality! Quality breeders will produce more decent offspring than 10k claimers on a regular basis. Quality breeders are also more expensive and in a lot of cases hard to get because they are valuable they also protect the house (barn)

Don't expect people to share everything about there techniques or strategies because for many of us we had to learn the long way. Money helps but as I found out my first season....money doesnt race. I have good stock because i did work on acquiring potential breeders based on what I could afford and what lineage was available. I invested time and money into this over 4 seasons.

Breeding has a HUGE impact on this game and may be the single most important thing.

2 of my best breeders all time were picked up in claimers - Ada Boy and Justice Hammer. Bloodlines are very important and while lower quality horses can produce solid offspring they do it at a much lower % rate. Once in a while you will find a cheapy that produces very well but this is rare. Also lets be clear on 10k etc. It might be a 10k claimer by the end of its race life but in the beginning it was stakes so its actually a much better horse overall than a 10k claimer that has run 10k claimers all life.

      Bottom line is:

      Do your homework
Any 2 horses can produce a stakes hopeful foal
      Know the lineage
Proven high end stakes horses on average will produce better foals
As a whole - the SHIT IN SHIT OUT theory holds true
This is not a slot machine...work & learning is actually required

yea don't want to give all my info away . but will tell good bloodlines are very important. Also it does take a lot of research .

I consider my stable as two parts - racing and breeding. I decided to invest a certain amount of money to build up my breeding farm . I figured I would not get that money back soon but would make money in time . It would also make my racing side much stronger . I have a ton of potential breeders for next season ready to go . this is a long term game not a lottery like Toc said .Money will speed up the process but small stables can grow to big stables with some knowledge and dedication

Both Tock and Lone Star make great points. I will say I've tried to get involved cheaply and had limited success. Most of my horses were either sub par or were not alw or stakes quality. I decided to spend a little more money in the game and it started to pay off with better horses and in turn better breeders.

Claiming is an important element in this game. You have to familar your self with what horses are regally bred and what times in there pps are above average (meaning there's room to move up in class). You also have to consider who you may be claiming from. Some trainers have a big volume of stock and don't proceed through all of the add work. So if you see a horse that has nice breeding and has stuggled as a 2 YO but only has a couple of works you may want to claim that horse if its affordable and try the adds that trainer missed. You can also try a different jockey or maybe campaign that runner as a sprinter/router instead of what they were running for with the other trainer. Most of the top barns in the game don't experiment with cheap stock very often so if you're going to claim, try claiming from someone who has very good bloodlines.

Like in real horse racing there is a premium on patience. All of us have varying degrees of it and you may be able to capitalize on someone's lack of it. Some put runners in easy spots just to move up the leaderboard, while some may just give up on the horse after one or two races. Remember if the horse is not performing well with one add or without TRY something else. I can't tell you how many horses i've claimed who run bad with the "best" add say in 109.10 then the next "best" add was 109.15 and that add was never tried.

In closing, I have to mention the "firesale" effect. Every season it seems theres at least one trainer maybe two that have fallen on hard times or need to leave the game for some reason and have to sell off there stock. The popular thing now is to package them all together in an auction format as selling them individually is time consuming. Because of this you're going to be getting very good deals on there stock. When this happens be sure to have the money available to take advantage. Its done wonders for me.

Anything else you want to know just pm me.

May the horse be with you!
