  • Goodbye Young Abarado

    ....thanks for playing.

Another of the illustrious apprentices bites the dust as he loses his claim.

The apprentice program needs serious overhaul. After Abarado reached his 50th win during the day, all his remaining claims on the racecard became null and void.

The question is... would he have been selected in so many races if he didn't have his claim? I know I wouldn't have. The race results for some races today would have been different with Abarado keeping his claim for ALL races of the day or stables selecting their normal rider knowing that Abarado wouldn't have a claim. The claim cut out half way through the program as Abarado got his 50th and it was too late to change jockeys.

Please look at it Carl. It happened with Oneto Jr and Hawley Jr. and probably with the others prior.

Not sure what the rules are in the states, but in australia when an apprentice outrides his claim ealr in a meeting, and he has rides remaining on the raceday, he is allowed to keep using his claim until the end of the race meeting. Then from the next meeting on his allowance is gone.

Maybe we can use that idea here?

Carl, i am still expectin J-LO to show up at my stables any day now, and if the programmer won't release her, then can i have a Jessica Alba Look alike apprentice?

I think this should be taken into consideration when you choose him as your jockey, if you see he is close to 50 wins, you take a gamble if he will reach it before your race. Secondly in real horse racing trainers tend to favor good jockeys on thier good horses, and when the aritificial intelligence is placed, these apprentice jockeys will need the weight allowance just to compete. I think the weight should be on offset to their inexperience. I also think an apprentice should get better with mounts, and will preform well for a stable who sticks with him or her and gives them more mounts even after the allowance.

We will change it so the apprentice carries the -5 for the rest of the race card. Maybe Abarado won't bite the dust. Take a look at the current jockey standings and notice that 3 of the top 5 were apprentices here at one time.

Nigel I won't give up Jessica Alba!!! lol

The current leader list does have 4 apprentices out of the top 6 jockeys. But these are false stats. Except for Oneto Jr, after their claim has finished (50 wins) they win few races.

Hawley Jr - wins 50 races in less than 2 weeks. Since then has only won 5.

Nelson - won 50 races in less than 2 weeks last season. Has only won 11 this season.

Mario - won 50 races in less than 2 weeks a couple of seasons ago. Has only won 14 races this season.

Gard - won 50 races in less than 3 weeks 2 seasons ago. Has only won 2 races this season.

Laparo - He took a month to win 50 races because he was 2nd choice to Gard. Has won 3 races this season.

Wills - he took over a month to win his 50 races because he was 2nd fiddle to Oneto Jr but once OJ finished his claims, he won 30 races in a week since then has won 10 in 3 weeks.

The apprentice system seems to be in reverse. They ride like seasoned veterans while they have their claim but once it is gone, they suddenly lose form except for OJ.

I just believe that the calculation between weight and experience in regard to apprentices is tipped too far in favor of weight.

I still say, the reason the jocks go sour is because they lose their mounts. Oneto Jr. is still riding some top horses, therefore still doing well. I don't think the flaw is in the system, it's in the way trainers play the system.

It's NOT the jock but the weight. It looks like the 5 to 10 lbs has to much effect in the game right now !!!!!
You can beat a race, but you can't beat the races !
