  • Races that fill up

Okay, first off, apologies if my understanding of this is incorrect. By all means feel free to correct me.

I was wondering what happens when a race gets over 12 entries? To me it seems that if a race gets 16 entries for example, then another race is created and each race would have 8 runners....?

Does anybody else find this irritating? You have a race that looks like its going to have a tasty pot up for grabs, only to then be running for 9000 credits?

Too many races seem to be run for pittance, its almost not even worth running in lower races IMO.

Would it not be better to close the race off once it hits max entries? Then open up a new race and allow that to fill? If the second race doesnt fill up then that would just be unfortunate that you did not register in time, I mean, the races are open for entry plenty of time in advance.

In my opinion we need to do something because the pots are just too small most of the time. I mean Im winning pots that cant even buy me a big mac meal in my currency lol.

Im not saying this is a get rich game, i play for fun but id like some decent reward when i eventually win a race!

i personally think we need to consider my suggestion above, or look at reviewing race entry fees and increasing them. Im ot talking a lot, just by 1000 credits or so, depending on the level of race obviously.

    Any thoughts?

It used to be the way you are asking for. Once 12 entries were in a race it closed and another opened.

I think most think that 8 and 8 is better than 12 and 4. 7 and 7 better than 12 and 2 that get a refund.

Most of the issue I think was caused by the stakes races. If you had 12 in one and 4 in the second then the second race didnt earn points toward the championship. So they changed to the splitting with at least 6 horses in one race so that points could be earned for the SS series and the fields were equal.

i think you'd agree that if 15 horses were entered in a SSS race that it wouldnt be quite fair that 3 horse field would automatically get points for finishing in the top three. So they set the 6 horse rule for points and set it so races that split would have at least 6.

I understand the point you are trying to make that competing against larger fields would be better purses etc. Personally I wouldn't be opposed to it with the exception of the SS races and anything that would earn points so that the fields were equal. I suspect if they did revert there would be some complaints that they didnt get into a race that had 14 entries. So idk

      Cheers for your comment CDSS

I see both sides to be honest. And I wouldnt be opposed to leaving the SS races as they are of thats what suits everyone.

And I agree with some of what you're saying but IMO if you snooze, you lose. If you dont register a horse and miss the race then better luck next time.

But right now I am fed up of running for peanuts. Unfortunately I dont have the budget to run with the big stables yet. But the competition in the SA races and 20K+ claimers is healthy and can be profitable, only problem for me is the pots are too small. Like I say I dont expect the game to be mega expensive and price stables out but Its a shame when you place in a race and dont even win enough to buy a loaf of bread!

I dont see why we cant increase the nomination fees if people wouldnt be happy closing the races at 12 entries.

I mean even the SS races are cheap, 7000 credits...even that doesnt buy a Big Mac meal in my corner of the globe lol

The SSS have to be kept this way to make things fair so everyone has semi equal opportunity to make the same points...The consensus when we changed this was looking to even things out.

In a 8 horse field you hae a 1-8 chance of winning and in a 12 horse field you have a 1-12 chance of winning. So in theory, you will win less often in a 12 horse field but get paid a bit more. Wont effect your long run economics of the game as far as opportunity to make money. The rake is the same regardless.

I understand your points Joe, as I say SS races are not a huge concern of mine anyway and understand the playing field needs to be 100% level for that competition.

And you're right about the long term economics, but wins are hard to come by regardless if the field size and when my horse wins I think it should be rewarded accordingly. Nothing worse when you think you're about to be running for 20k and it actually turns out to be 10k with the winner getting 5k.

What's the general consensus on upping the nom fees?

I'm not exactly for upping nomination fees but i would like to see them changed a bit so that 50k claimers and open allowance arent the same.

              2k -20k stay the same

              30k - 2k entry
              50k 2500 entry
              75k 3k entry
              100k 4k entry
              Open allowance 5k entry
              Grade 1 stakes 6k entry.
              Grade 2 stakes 8k entry
              Grade 3 stakes 10k entry

This rewards the better horses more and would reduce any from dropping down for easy cashes.
