Does gelding make the horse that much faster or what? I see tons of horses gelded just wondering what's the big benefits from it?

    gelding

I try not to geld, but , yes it can help..I gelded this morning gained 1/2 sec. I gelded because horse ran 1 09.5 ish and 1 1/4 was still crappy at 2.05.3 or so ..geld put him 1.09.06 ish .

also I will geld if a horse is not performing to his works ..or if he continues to fade at the finish.

Gelding does help but in my personal experience its usually short lived. It might make them more raceable or they might win one or two off the geld, but usually they go back to disappointing. There are exceptions out there I know and some very good Geldings such as EL Magnifico Wade for example. I would be interested to know what other owners thought about whether there was any difference in gelding before the horse hits the race track or gelding after a few races. I've noticed that the horse may stay in form longer if gelded prior to hitting the track, whereas if I geld 5 or 6 races into his career he may win a race or two but then go back to be disappointing. Anyone else feel this way?

I think you're better off trying a different add or different jockey in most cases. You'd be surprised about how many times you can claim a horse and see an add that was missed during there racing career so far.

        For example:

Horse trains in Shadowroll at 109.03
Horse trains in Tongue Tie at 109.09
Horse trains in ST combo at 108.95

Horse was disappointing in both Shadowroll and ST combo on the track but never tries the Tongue Tie. This would be a logical add change to be made as the training time is not that far off of the horses best drills. I've used this as a tool to turn my own horses around and it has made me a better trainer with recent claims. If the horse doesn't run with the other add and you don't see them with a future breeding then gelding is the only other alternative.

Gelding is totally hit or miss. I say be patient..i have had many runners that i would geld at 2yo that actually perform very well at 3yo ungelded.

Gelds normally have a short positive impact...on rare occasions (Ecko) it can be a lifetime bump. There are also a bunch that stay the same or get worse. In the end the negatives out weigh the positives

I hate to do it . you lose breeding value which you almost never make up in races won . but if there parents are poor breeders then it doesn't matter .I started gelding 2k claimers to see if it helps but have yet to see anything good
