  • Anyone else have this problem

    Hi guys:

Wondering if anyone else has ever encountered this problem. I have been playing this game since 2006 and this is the first time I can remember this happening to one of my horses.

Santa Claus was a promising yearling, his first workout time was 1:08.81. He ran well as a 2 year old but has been running average at best as a 3 year old.
I attributed some of hie regression to the fact that he was racing against older horses, but this appears not to be the case.

I have given him 2 more workouts over 6f and each successive work has beenslower than when he was a yearling.

    10Dec11 CAL Dirt fst 6.0f 22.24 45.05 1:08.81 1 1 1 1 Trujillo E(P) 120

    01May12 CAL Dirt fst 6.0f 22.56 45.56 1:09.14 1 1 1 1 Trujillo E(P) BL 120

    17Jul12 CAL Dirt fst 6.0f 22.57 45.64 1:09.35 1 1 1 1 Trujillo E(P) BL 120

The only difference between the first work and the other 2 was the other 2 included blinkers which I found to be an equipment upgrade for the horse.

Is it possible that a horse could peak as a 2 year old and drop off that quickly as a 3 year old. I thought most horses improved as they aged in the game, and this is a real mystery for me. I had high hopes for the horse but at this point probably will not race him again until he turns 4 in the hopes that he might improve then.

Any, and all comments, suggestions on this horse will be much appreciated.

Not all 2YO improve with age some get worse, but then get better again at 4 or even 5.

Thanks for the info Jim, I had never had it happen to me before so was confused.

As I said, proabbly won't race him again until he turns 4 to see what happens.

I find it is hit and miss, then mine get claimed and they take off, I claim them back at higher price only to see that the trainer did absolutely nothing different??

        It is a mystery

In looking at his splits he seems quicker without the blinks, but the blinks may help him finish quicker. I would try 6F without the blinks and see what you get. He's been a versitile runner, so I may also try working longer (1 1/8m) on steady and push to see if he wants to route (which he may). From there you may want to try to work thru the adds to see what he likes at a longer distance.

At this point, I would send him back in an allowance non-winner of a race when you return him to the races.

            Good luck with him,

The adds may increase his endurance and thus make him look slower in short races. Also, As horses mature, they may increase traits that make them better in routes but not quite as quick. Get baseline works for yearlings at three extreme distances, and don't assume that adds will uniformly help at all distances. I have written similar explanations for why many horses run better at some distances with lower meters.
