looking at tomorrows card i see the legend that is Camaro is running. If you dont know the story behind the legend that is Camaro he is a 10 year old gelding that has lost and lost impressively lately. In his last 5 races he has been beaten by a grand total of 458 lengths! and no thats not a type o the closest that big c has come to winning is a heart breaking 47 length head bob that went against him last time out. Well that got me to thinking of real life horse racing futility and a horse at Garden State in NJ about 10 maybe 15 years ago named Gussie Mae I think Gussie went 80+ races before breaking her maiden. My question is what horse here at DD has gone the longest in his or her career before breaking his/her maiden?

Hats off
Let's not forgot dear old Zippy Chippy who went 0 for 100, even losing his first footrace against a human before finally getting a win against a minor league baseball player in a media stunt.
I think this guy was doomed from the start. To me it is a bad, bad idea to give a racehorse a name that includes any word like "chippy", "bow", or anything that calls to mind a deli meat. JMO.

maybe not
Not necessarily.
There was an owner/trainer at the Standardbred track I live near, whose horses kept coming to bad ends. So he named his next one 'Bowed Tendon' I believe, and it did great! True story.

Zippy Chippy
Kelly - I can't believe you knew the Zippy Chippy story. He raced at my local track here at Finger Lakes in upstate NY. I know the trainer pretty well, and he told me that they were going to make a movie about him, which would have made him a nice payday. However, he would have to win a race in order for this to happen, which he never did.
By the way, I was there when he raced against a human at at the minor league baseball stardium in Rochester.
He was the most famous local horse around here who never won a race.

Aquaman

Kelly and I had a horse out here in our neck of the woods back in the day called The Brazilian who actually got the gold once in his career, but was 1 for 99 before he left the racing map. His trainer, who I believe was Dean Pederson said he needs a long race like 5 miles because he never gets tired, he's just slow. I use that for my slow horses here from time to time.Last edited by Golden State Bloodstock; 12-30-2009, 01:20 PM.Well, it's clear I didn't come here to win your approval.

I dont know if its the longest drought to start a career here at DD but its the longest i have found so far
Jake The Snake Rober a 4yr old gelding has started his career an amazing 26 races without finding the winners circle even more impressive is this beast hasnt even finished 2nd!!! he has finished 3rd 5 times but two of those 5 times there were only 3 horses in the field. Luci O our sentimental hearts bleed for you and i know ill be pullin for ole Jake next time out. Maybe a few DDT's to the other jockeys prior to the gate swinging open might improve his chance. Good Luck Jake but you have a long way to go before you reach Gussie Mae status.
