  • final time question

i had a horse win a 5k claimer in 203.44 which is very fast for that company looking at some stake races a 50k to 100 k claimers it is comparable to the final time in those races. I know each race is unique with final times ranging from trip to certain days the track being faster then other days. My question is Is this something that i should expect him to duplicate in better competition or is it just because he was running at his cheapest and moving him up would slow his final time. I have had similiar with 2k claimers seeing them win in 109.20's and thinking of moving them up but dont want to put them in too deep

I'd move it up a couple of classes (20-30K Claimers) next start just to be on the safe side. If no good, drop it back down. If good, depending on whether a fast time repeat, move it up again or look for Starter Allowances.

Times can be deceptive in this game. Running 1:09.20 in a 5K Claimer can be the same as it running 1:10.20 in an Open Allowance. Weak Opposition Versus Strong Opposition kinda stuff.

I don't worry too much about times run.
