  • Breeding Claiming

Since there are only a couple claiming races a day im going to have to combine that with some breeding in order to build a stable fairly quickly unless there is another auction soon? I tried the sales ring and got nada ( which I expected) so thats out for now.

Im usually looking to match a sprinting mare with a routing sire. Im not a expert in breeding at all however and im wondering what you guys think?

And regarding claimers im a bit leary to claim because of what ive read about people sandbaging workouts with weight. I use performance as a first guide and look for lightly raced horses but works do matter also. Anyone give me advice in this regard or reasure me there is no sandbaging ?

You will get lots of different answers

    Midwest-

Sandbagging happens, and over time you will figure out who does it and who does not. Meanwhile, have a peek at your pm's.

In re to breeding, I find "type to type" works better, sprinters to sprinters or perhaps with a miler, but no with a router. Jamie of Aardvark told me to look for mares with more than 50k in earnings which was good advice. Since then I also have learned to look for mares with an average speed fig of at least 93 and stallions that have won stakes or multiple open allowance races.

Build your stable with claimers before you spend too much money on breeds as obtaining good mares are the hard part of the equation and at the start of a new season there are many good value claims. I would look to claim horses that are winning in their class and look to run them back the same level or just one level up.It will give you an idea as to how to operate a winning stable. Many moderatly raced 4yo are good values and in the first couple of weeks there will also be some undervalued 2 yo as horses don't always run to their works and maybe haqve lost their 1st couple of races and are dropped into less than their value races. As far as sandbagging goes, you will find that most top stables don't care about claiming their horses as they are running for purses and not just wins and dont have time to hide a horse as in real life. Any of mine are in for a price as they can't win allowance races and hopefully are in at a competitive level. Good luck and have fun. PM me should you have a ny questions Falcon

Welcome to the game Midwest Stable:
Falcon gives good advice for "newbies" to get the feel of the game. I run primarily a claiming outfit, so when I lose horses in claiming races I replace them by claiming from others. Some work out, others don't. That's the risk you take. The breeding game is more expensive and more difficult to produce positive results (just like in the REAL WORLD), but it is the best way to produce a stakes caliber horse. It requires patience, good research, and a large bankroll. Again it's risk and reward, and certainly having good luck helps the cause.

As long as they are not misrepresented in Auctions, trainers have the right to work their horses at whatever weights, distances, and jockey instructions as they see fit.

Good Luck, and feel free to send me a pm with any questions or comments.

My little brother loved Aquaman lol thanks for the help I made notes.

I must say its a refreshing change to have help from the top trainers here. You guys are smart and realize that its best for the game if newbies suceed.

I hope in time I can return the favor.

            Thanks
